Welcome to our Blog for Families interested in Eastern European Adoption

With the New Year, comes a new blog! We hope this will be a way for us to share information about our adoption programs in Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, and Ukraine. Please be sure to check out our website at www.opendooradoption.org for details about each country's program, requirements, and eligible children.

BULGARIA

Bulgaria offers the best opportunity of these four countries for younger children adoptions although the wait is long. A family needs to be prepared to wait an estimated 18 months - 2 years upon their approval by the country for a relatively healthy child 3 years of age and under. Bulgaria regularly sends us referrals of their special needs children that are also available for adoption. These needs can vary from relatively mild to more severe. We will share the milder special needs children with the families in our program and will also post them on our website at www.opendooradoption.org. A family can apply for one of these children and if they are matched by Bulgaria with the child, the country will reserve the child until the family has time to complete their dossier. Accepting one of these special needs referrals can certainly shorten the waiting time for a young child.

We are thrilled to announce that the S. family returned home last October with their adorable four year old son Andrew. You can read all about their journey at www.santor-albania-adoption.blogspot.com. Andrew is welcomed by four brothers and sisters and his parents. He is doing great with his adjustment to his new life and family.
